Abstract

The family environment plays a very important role in the academic performance of young people since a student needs the support of his or her parents. One of the problems faced by the Basic Education system is to get parents to participate in their children's school life.  The family and the school, from the point of view of two formative institutions of the individual, maintain a dialectic relationship in the educational formation of the student. However, when there are alterations in the family environment, some factors that are present in school dropouts are the lack of moral and economic support from their parents and the family in general; the family structures in which they live have changed; unemployment and lack of resources for students; as well as unplanned and high-risk pregnancies.
