The research problem addressed was: What is the level of profitability of small-scale livestock farming in Supe during 2023? The study was conducted with the general objective of determining the profitability level of small-scale livestock production in Supe in 2023. Based on the type of data collected, the research followed a quantitative approach with a non-experimental design. Its scope was descriptive, and according to the source of data collection, it was observational; likewise, it was classified as cross-sectional according to the data collection plan.
The population consisted of 25 livestock producers. The research instrument was a questionnaire validated through expert judgment by three specialists in livestock production, research methodology, and dairy production, who assessed the instrument according to the criteria of clarity, coherence, relevance, and pertinence. Descriptive statistics frequencies, percentages, and averages were used for data analysis. In addition, the main economic profitability indicators were calculated: production costs, income, net profit, and benefit-cost ratio.
The results showed a fluctuating level of profitability, between 15% and 20%, and in some cases equal to or less than 4%. The conclusion is that income, expenses, and equity demonstrate that the profitability of small-scale livestock farmers in Supe during 2023 is heterogeneous and strongly influenced by operational efficiency rather than by the level of investment or herd size.
